Jazzmyn Cruz (b. 1992, Grand Rapids, MI, United States) is a painter, illustrator, sculptor, media artist, video artist, and mixed media artist who lives and works in Grand Rapids, MI. She works in these medias because if she is going to create an idea she has in her mind or is inspired by a commission or request, then she is going to use everything she can find to make it happen and create a quality product or outcome. Her favorite artist is the Youtube user NerdForge. She is also a Jazza fan because she also dabbles in trying a little bit of everything artsy and nerdy. She is really driven and inspired by aesthetics because it makes her want to create beauty too. Jazzmyn's work doesn't have a main subject she uses in her work. She tends to make whatever she is thinking about or into at the time which is important to her because she likes to have flexibility. She feels like her creativity is held back by putting herself into a box and focusing just on that one thing. Part of that is because she identifies as an artist with ADD. Her art-making process consists of staring at the canvas until she sees what it wants to be in her head or discovering a new type of art to try and teaching herself how to do it. This is important to understanding her work because she has many different categories of products and mediums she uses. You never know what to expect, but also everything is one of a kind and that makes it special. The ideal exhibition space for her work is a home in which it can be truly appreciated by making someone feel something looking at it. This is the whole reason she creates art. She wants to spread joy. "Art can be anything you need or want it to be and that means something different to everyone. It's beautiful." Its bigger than her and even if she is the one creating it, it doesn't just belong to her as an artist, but it now belongs to the world and the person that looks at it and identifies with it. It may just be meant for you.
